The letter, left on the desk, addressed mysteriously to "44," was the same letter addressed to "43," left on the same desk eight years before. The square, yellow note, in fact, was stuck over the previous handwritten address.
Inside was a single sheet of paper. It was old and yellowed. Inspection of it could prove, were anyone to inspect it, that its date of manufacture is approximately 1797. On the sheet, written in a flowery but easy script, were the words:
Ha ha ha.
